Aldens Weekly Blog

If u asked me just a couple months ago, “what is a sequin?” I wouldn’t of had a good answer for you. That's about the time my new neighbor asked me if I would be able to help her out with her business, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into... My first day of work I walked in to see thousands of boxes filled with the largest collections of shiny, colorful things, of all imaginable sorts and sizes. I quickly learned what a sequin was. To easily put it, a sequin is a noun for
“a small, shiny discs sewn as one of many onto clothing for decoration.”

I've always liked shiny things as much as anyone, I guess? Before I didn’t pay much attention to decorations or clothing for that matter unless it was some name brand logo on a jersey or a pair of shoes. Now I was sorting and digging thru a seemingly endless amount of boxes, frantically trying to find the correct item to fill the next order. I wish I could say everything went as easily as I hoped and all the orders were filled just as expected. So I was quickly made aware of the other part of this business, witch is customer service. As the weeks have gone by, maybe a few refunds given, it seems like I am settling in. I couldn’t have asked for a better “boss” then I have, Carroll, owner and founder of Sequin Appliques, has been kind, patient, and more generous than I ever hoped for. I can’t thank Carroll enough for taking a gamble on a farm boy in his mid 30’s with no actual college degree, or any previous experience in the fashion industry.

Recently I have been given a major lead in the day to day operations plus a voice in the future direction of the business. I will do my best to accommodate all of our customers purchases and hopefully be able to respectively mend any negative issues in a timely fashion. I invite you to follow my journey as I will be sharing a weekly blog. Be patient as I am starting as a beginner. Anyways with that said, I thought It's about time that I learn how to apply some sequins. Next week!
